A grandfather clock, sometimes known as a longcase clock, is a clock that is typically pendulum driven and has a height of over 6 feet. If they height is lower it's sometimes referred to as a grandmother or granddaughter clock. Grandfather clocks sound on each hour and some even sound the time every quarter hour.
